about

The Falling of a Leaf was written in solidarity with the Palestinian resistance following the drip-fed genocide that turned into a tidal wave in October of 2023. Taylor Fox of Austin rock band Great Hag joined as accompanying vocalist.

lyrics

horizon-wide
led to this place to feed the empty
a screaming sky
one final song to represent me

the wrath of fire to cloak in worthiness a shadow
a gallow's smile as children pass into the hollow

lifted into light
beheld by your maker
no reason to hide
spread over an acre

is it ever enough?

can't force the blind to see
can't cause the cruel to feel
pulled deeper into sleep
the truth is never real
and as the windows break
curtained against the day
snatching us all awake
our castles wash away

the violence suffered for our ways
belief it leads to better days
acceptable, the cursed fate
when others bear the crushing weight
we scribble our identity
to worship as an effigy
and crucify for all the see
those who fail to bend the knee
became the monster that we fled
a parasite within the head
inducing us to see in red
to justify the mounting dead
and though we all are of the sun
we've let this bond become undone
for power that belongs to none
humanity exists as one

I only want to get by
don't want to cause any trouble
and so I'm living a lie
to keep inside of this bubble
with everything that I buy
another spirit is withered
to benefit the design
don't ask for me to look inward
